Tips for Downsizing Your Home

There are many benefits to downsizing your home, from financial relief to easier maintenance. But before you can reap the benefits, there are a few steps you may want to take to make this transition easier!

Measure Your Furniture

Before you move your sectional and banquet dining table into your new home, take measurements to make sure they will fit in the new space. You don’t want to go through the process of moving large pieces of furniture only to discover that they don’t fit!

Declutter Your Belongings

Go through your drawers, closets and cabinets and decide what you want to keep, donate or sell. This is a great opportunity to take inventory of your belongings and decide what is worth holding onto, as you likely won’t have as much storage in your smaller home.

Have a Yard Sale

Host a yard sale to sell the items you no longer need, and consider selling high-value items online or to a local consignment store. This is a great way to make a little extra cash to help with moving expenses!

Get Creative With Storage

You may have to get more creative with your storage in your new home. You might add additional shelving in the kitchen, over-the-door racks on closet doors, storage bins under your bed, or other unconventional storage solutions.

Be Flexible

Above all else, try to be flexible! Downsizing can be a challenging process, but once you are all settled in, you can enjoy the smaller space — and all the benefits that come with it.
