Summer Home Maintenance Checklist

Summer is one of the best times to enjoy your home — whether it’s spending an evening sipping wine on the patio under the stars or retreating to an air conditioned kitchen to retrieve a popsicle on a hot day.

Make sure your home remains happy and healthy this summer (and for many summers to come!) by completing these simple maintenance tasks, both inside and outside your home. Regular, proactive maintenance will keep things looking great for you and your house guests — not to mention, future buyers down the road!

INTERIOR:

  • Wash inside of windows.
  • Wipe off fan blades.
  • Check and replace all filters as needed (HVAC, air conditioning/heating and hood range).
  • Wipe down baseboards.
  • Check attic and basement for water damage.
  • Inspect HVAC system (professional recommended).
  • Wipe down or replace window screens.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Vacuum vents and refrigerator coils.
  • Clean kitchen sink disposal.
  • Remove lint from washer hoses and dryer vents.
  • Seal tile grout.
  • Check and clear out all drains (including bathtubs, showers and sinks).
  • Inspect plumbing for leaks.

EXTERIOR:

  • Wash exterior of windows.
  • Touch up exterior paint (including door and window trim).
  • Power wash outdoor surfaces (deck, patio, siding, driveway, etc.).
  • Inspect garden hose for holes or signs of damage.
  • Clean gutters and downspouts.
  • Inspect roof for damage or leaks.
  • Restain and reseal deck or patio.
