Easy Eco-Friendly Cleaning Swaps

Looking for new ways to make your cleaning schedule more “eco-friendly?” Check out this list of easy product swaps that will make the planet, your home, and your wallet happy!

Use dryer balls instead of dryer sheets — Dryer balls, which are usually made from wool, plastic, or rubber, prevent laundry from clumping together, help your clothes dry faster, soften the fabric, and reduce static electricity. As an added bonus, many dry balls can be used for up to 1,000 loads of laundry!

Or use old dryer sheets to dust your home — If you haven’t made the switch to wool dryer balls but are planning on it soon, don’t throw out your dryer sheets just yet! You can reuse old dryer sheets to dust off the top of furniture, door frames, above cabinets, and so much more instead of purchasing disposable dusters.

Replace paper towels with microfiber cloths — These reusable cloths can absorb liquids and oils, spotlessly wash appliances and windows, and much more making them the perfect eco-friendly replacement for paper towels. Simply place them in the dishwasher or washing machine to clean for continued use.

Swap your all-purpose cleaner with white vinegar —  Fill a reusable bottle with a mixture of white vinegar and water to create an all-natural all-purpose cleaner that you can use on almost anything! If you don’t love the smell of vinegar, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to brighten the scent.

Trade bleach-based cleaners for baking soda — Baking soda can make a great replacement for the bleach-based cleaners you may use to clean your bathroom. Combine it with your new vinegar cleaner for extra cleaning power.

Purchase biodegradable sponges — Green-ify your dish washing habits by swapping your plastic sponges with biodegradable ones. These sponges can be reused many times and even run through the dishwasher or washing machine to be freshened up. Then, once you are ready to get rid of it, you can add it to a compost pile to biodegrade!
