5 Ways to Boost Your Community Involvement
These days, we seem more disconnected from our surroundings than ever. Through smartphones and modern technology, everything is seemingly available at our fingertips and it can be easy to lose sight of what’s right in front of you. But that doesn’t have to be the case: your own neighborhood is full of ways to boost your community involvement.
Join a committee: Whether it’s through a neighborhood association or your condominium board, joining a committee is one of the most hands-on ways to get involved. By contributing to the discussion around shaping the vision of a community, you can make a real, tangible impact.
Volunteer your time: There are many opportunities to give back to the community. Local organizations such as shelters, hospitals and more are always looking for individuals who can commit the time and energy needed to help improve the lives of others.
Support local retailers: Big box stores and the internet do make shopping more convenient. But they lack the element that make local retailers so enticing: charm. By supporting local businesses, you help shape the character of a neighborhood and what makes it unique.
Join a class/group: We often say we “don’t know our neighbors.” Why not meet them at a local class? From fitness to art and everything in between, a class or group can not only introduce you to your neighbors, it’s a great place to make new friends.
Throw a block party: Nothing brings people together more than a party. By joining your condominium’s social committee or neighborhood association, you can help organize events that make everyone living in your area feel like they’re part of a larger community.
